I work very hard to be respectful and I’m also quite willing to “call out the pink elephant in the room” in a manner that clients sometimes need. I am known to use humor as a means to regulate high levels of emotionality.

Art therapy is a specialization that is able to provide processing of trauma in a way that does not re-traumatize the participant. It can be transformative for both adults and children, as it allows the unconscious parts of our brain, the parts that do not normally have direct expression, to communicate and heal. While art therapy was originally developed to assist physical recovery of skills, it has been found to be highly effective for providing diagnosis and treatment of trauma experiences.
AIR (Adaptive Internal Relational) Network is a trauma-informed model to work with complex trauma and dissociation. This training was developed by experts in this field at Midwest Center for Trauma and Healing. Jessica has completed AIR Network and uses this model in working with clients who have experienced complex trauma and present with dissociative symptoms. Jessica is in a monthly consult group with one of the AIR Network trainers, Dr. Phyllis Solon, and is working towards certification in AIR Network.
Jessica has completed training to be a state board-approved supervisor for LPCC.
Areas of Clinical Interest
Jessica is passionate about therapies that engage all areas of someone’s life experience and worldview, and are nurturing of individual and community strengths. Jessica believes in repairing relationships, increasing non-violent communication, using strategies and practices to repair early attachment disruption for children and families and increasing awareness of ourselves and others. She is interested in creating a genuine connection and using strengths as the basis for growth and conscious evolution.
Practice Areas
Jessica works with children, adolescents, individuals, couples, and families.
Personal Statement
I believe that every person has their own unique life path, and while life is often challenging, it should also be an enriching experience. It can be very challenging to know where and how we have power in our lives when things are difficult, and so I love helping children, adolescents, parents, caregivers, and friends discover their power. I tend to tailor my intervention strategies to the person or group I am working with, but I always will provide you with consistent, positive support. I always notice and point out my client’s strengths. I use CBT, DBT strategies, art therapy, play therapy, AIR Network, and non-violent communication as the basis for my work with clients.

How we interact with ourselves and others is the result of our own early childhood experiences, traumas, and attachment. As we get older we hold onto these psychological foundations and patterns. These often drive maladaptive behaviors, relationship distress, anxiety, and overall dissatisfaction. My goal is to first help you understand these patterns and then to help you incorporate these past experiences within your current self. Through this process, you will gain insight, acceptance, and more genuine and fulfilling life. I offer a safe, non-judgmental, and, at times, playful environment for the client.

Personal Statement
I am a cis, white-passing, biracial, queer woman and I am humbled to facilitate the deep healing that individuals have expressed experiencing when working with me. I am passionate in working with populations that are largely underrepresented. My own identities within these demographics allow me to experience a deeper understanding of the unique struggles experienced among these populations, and I also recognize the privileges I hold that create limitations to what I can truly understand. I value bringing humor into my sessions, when appropriate, and I love connecting with my clients through music and art. I truly believe there’s so much that these mediums can communicate which words alone cannot articulate. You will find that I am laid back, non-intimidating, and genuine in my therapeutic approach.

Phyllis Solon
Phyllis Solon
Education & Training
Phyllis C. Solon, PsyD, LP is a clinician, consultant and trainer in South Minneapolis and was instrumental in developing the multicultural doctoral training program at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. Phyllis has worked to understand neurodiverse people and train clinicians, families and educators since 1995 and has designed and taught multiple courses in the U.S. and abroad since 1998. She is also the co-developer of the AIR Network Model of understanding and working with people with complex PTSD and dissociative experiences and has helped train over 450 clinicians worldwide in the model since 2015.
Background
Phyllis grew up in an Irish and Polish, Catholic family on the Southside of Chicago in a large extended family. Grandparents on both sides were from the “old country” and came to Chicago in the early 1900’s. Phyllis has been conscious of racism and sexism since the 70’s and has been on a journey of dismantling both, internally and in external systems, since then. Professionally, Phyllis has trained and consulted in mental health, education and religious organizations on a range of topics concerning culture, diversity, inclusion, privilege and intersectionality since the mid 1990’s and has taught courses on multiculturalism in counseling and supervision to doctoral students for the last 25 years.
Areas of Clinical Interest
Areas of clinical competency and specialization include work with clients with a history of profound trauma and dissociation, families who have adopted trans-racially and/or trans-nationally, neurodiversity and autism spectrum conditions and all the overlapping spaces amongst them. She has worked as a therapist, supervisor, and clinical director in a variety of multidisciplinary and multicultural clinical settings serving the needs of children, adolescents, and families. Well versed in the neurology of attunement, attachment, development and trauma and the use of interpersonal neurobiology in providing therapy across the life span, she has conducted individual, couples, family and group therapy with children, adolescents, and adults. In addition, she provides clinical consultation on trauma, multiculturalism, autism and many other topics to professionals and organizations and has designed and taught a wide variety of psychology courses both in the United States and abroad.
Personal Statement
Phyllis sees teaching and learning as taking place within the context of relationships and believes that the highest good is to love, honor and protect others, particularly children and those who cannot protect themselves. She understands therapy as the practice of deep listening for each person’s dignity to clear a space so that they can free themselves from all the bindings that have been placed upon them. She has learned over a long period of time that there is no such thing as self-sufficiency: we are all intensely and intrinsically interdependent. She teaches and practices from the perspective that every interaction has the potential to hurt or to heal and tries to fall as much on the healing side as possible.
Dr. Solon works as a clinical supervisor at Parker Collins and does not keep an individual caseload at this time.

Personal Statement
I am a first generation Armenian immigrant. My people are storytellers, so my clients’ stories are very important to me. I hold a strong cultural value in treating people with dignity and respect, especially when they have been seen by others as “difficult” or “resistant”. Much of my clinical work has been focused on helping people to recover a sense of themselves in the midst of highly traumatic and frequently chaotic lives. I assess and treat clients while recognizing the profound impact of trauma, violence and societal systems of oppression that exist in multiple contexts. My delivery of services is competency-based and culturally focused in a way that promotes healing and liberation. I may be the right fit for clients who are seeking support with understanding the impact of historical, individual, cultural, and intergenerational trauma, as well as identity development particularly relating to gender identity/expression, and sexual orientation.
I bring clinical knowledge, authenticity, a sense of humor, and a never-ending curiosity to learn from my clients. As someone who is queer, cis, and white-passing, I continue to examine my areas of privilege while also carrying multiple, marginalized identities. This allows me to help my clients both as an outsider looking into their lives, as well as an insider with a view through shared experiences. My therapeutic stance is rooted within Multicultural Feminist Theory which allows me to uplift clients’ strengths and protective factors in various realms of emotional and behavioral functioning. I look at “presenting problems” through the lens of multigenerational, vicarious, and identity-based traumas. Essentially, I view my clients as generally healthy people living in a pathological society. This simple reframe normalizes so many experiences that clients have internalized shame about. It also opens the door for many therapeutic interventions and helps clients to see themselves in that way as well.
I speak English, Russian, and Armenian and am happy to offer therapy services in any of those languages, as well as any other language with the help of an interpreter.
